Audi's Sport quattro Concept headed to Frankfurt

To celebrate 30 years since the introduction of the Audi Sport quattro at the 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show, Audi will present a modern reinterpretation of the classic rally machine.
Spectacularly yellow, the 2013 Audi Sport quattro Concept is powered by a hybrid drivetrain, with a 150 PS (110 kW) electric motor supplementing a 4 litre V8 TFSI engine's 560 PS (412 kW). Audi claims the combined power of the system is capable of accelerating the 1850 kg design study from rest to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and on to an ultimate top end of 305 km/h. Thanks to the hybrid powertrain, Audi reckons the CO2 emissions are just 59 g/km.
Using electric power only, the range of the Sport quattro Concept is just 50 km, but there are two other operating modes available: Hybrid and Sport. Hybrid puts the system into optimal energy usage mode and it alternates between the electric and petrol power according to which would be most efficient within the operating parameters. In Sport mode, the system operates so that the maximum power is delivered continuously and that there is always sufficient charge in the battery.
The Audi Sport quattro sits on a 2784 mm wheelbase and is 4602 mm long, and the design is clearly intended to allude to the original, especially around the rear haunches, which feature exaggerated wheelarch bulges and a thick, forward-slanting C-pillar which widens noticeably towards the base.
The hexagonal front grille is an indicator of future Audi design direction. The top edge follows the bonnet line and the bottom section is extended all the way down to the CFRP splitter. Rectangular LED lighting is also positioned along the underside of the bonnet line and provides a distinctively sharp-edged front.
The concept is shod with 285/30 rubber on 21 inch rims. Carbon-ceramic disc brakes are fitted to all four wheels. No production is planned.
