New Mercedes-Benz C-Class 4MATIC models

Mercedes-Benz have released the all-wheel drive versions of their C-Class range. The C-Class 4MATIC models come with permanent all-wheel drive mated to the 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic gearbox used on most current Mercedes-Benz automatic models.
The front:rear torque split is permanently set to 45:55, compared to the 40:60 of the previous 4MATIC generation. The system is very compact and weighs between 60 and 70 kg. This latest 4MATIC generation has been redesigned to provide greater efficiency, thanks to reduced gearing and associated losses, as well as an improved oil supply system. Torque distribution is achieved through a system of electronic traction control, called 4ETS, and not via conventional locking differentials. This electronic system offers 3 basic modes of power distribution, operating along the front axle, rear axle and across front and rear.
Available on the C 280, C320 CDI, C320 CDI Estate and C 350 models, the 4MATIC package also features improved braking with ESP fitted as standard, along with the larger brakes that come with the ESP package.
The power outputs of the engines remain the same as their 2-wheel drive counterparts, with the C 280 delivering 231 PS (170 kW), the C 320 CDI models 224 PS (165 kW) and the C 350 272 PS (200 kW).
