New lightweight Gallardo for Geneva Salon

Lamborghini is going to unveil a special lightweight version of the Gallardo at this year's Geneva Salon. The lighter and more powerful Gallardo Superleggera joins Lamborghini's lineup to square up to the imminent Ferrari 430 Challenge Stradale, which is possibly also arriving at Geneva.
Lamborghini's engineers have found and extra 10 PS over the base Gallardo, and have managed to pare 70 kg from the weight by removing many standard-specification items, such as sound deadening, sat-nav and other non-essentials. Certain body panels like the bonnet and items such as rear spoiler and side view mirrors are now made from carbon fibre, helping to reduce weight. The large rear spoiler is thankfully available as an option.
With the 5 litre V10 now producing 530 PS (390 kW) at 8000 rpm, and the car weighing just 1360 kg, Lamborghini says the Gallardo Superleggera will cover the 100 km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds, which compares to 3.95 seconds of the base model Gallardo. The claimed top speed is unchanged, at 315 km/h.
