Renault's new Clio III unveiled
Friday June 17, 2005
The newest Renault Clio has been launched. The range features 1.1, 1.4 and 1.6 litre petrol engines, and a range of 1.5 diesel engines. The petrol engines range from 75 PS for the 1.1 litre, to 110 PS for the most powerful 1.6 litre versions. The 1.5 dCi diesels run from 68 to 106 PS.
Gearboxes include 5 speed manuals, 6 speed manuals and a 4 speed automatic. A robotised 5 speed paddle-shift manual with automatic shifting mode - as shown on the Modus - is available on some versions.
The styling is quite an improvement over the last generation Clio, with the rather awkwardly-detailed front end getting a smoother, sharper appearance. The rear is somewhat reminiscent of Nissan's Micra, and is nowhere near as neat or as adventurous as the Megane hatchback's.
Future engine options are likely to include 2 litre 16 valve versions, and hopefully the mental Clio V6 will make an appearance in this new Clio as well.
