BMW releases new X6 Sports Activity Coupe

The details of the long-awaited BMW X6 have been officially released. Four versions are on offer initially, with 2 diesel and 2 petrol versions being available.
With an overall length of 4877 mm and a width of 1983 mm, the X6 is not small. Kerb weights range from 2145 kg for the X6 xDrive35i to 2265 kg for the top-of-the-range X6 xDrive50i. Aerodynamics are adversely affected by the bulk, with CdA values ranging from 0.959 m2 to 1.01 m2. All X6 models at launch come with a 6 speed automatic gearbox, and wear 255/50 profile tyres on 19 inch rims. Ventilated disc brakes are fitted all round, ABS of course is standard.
The two diesel engines are both 2993 cc straight sixes with direct diesel injection and twin turbochargers. The BMW X6 xDrive30d produces 235 PS (173 kW) at 4000 rpm and torque of 520 Nm (384 lbft) at 2000-2750 rpm. The more powerful BMW X6 xDrive35d musters 286 PS (210 kW) at 4400 rpm and 580 Nm (428 lbft) from 1750 rpm to 2250 rpm. This allows the X6 to sprint to 100 km/h from rest in 8.0 and 6.9 seconds, and on to a top speed of 220 km/h and 236 km/h respectively. The respective CO2 emissions are 217 g/km and 220 g/km.
The two petrol variants are also both equipped with twin turbos. The BMW X6 xDrive35i has a straight six of 2979 cc capacity, and sports figures of 306 PS (225 kW) of power and 400 Nm (295 lbft) of torque. This model covers the 0-100km/h dash in 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h. CO2 emissions are 262 g/km. The BMW X6 xDrive50i comes with a new V8 engine of 4395 cc capacity. This engine boasts 407 PS (299 kW) at 5500-6400 rpm and torque of 600 Nm (443 lbft) at 1750-4500 rpm. The fastest of the bunch, it manages 100 km/h from standstill in 5.4 seconds, and will reach a limited top speed of 250 km/h. CO2 emissions are 299 g/km for this version.
