Buick have used the "Wildcat" moniker on many concepts and production cars over the years, but few of them were as dramatic as the 1985 Buick Wildcat concept. This Wildcat featured a 230bhp mid-mounted V-6 of 3.8 litres, based on the contemporary OHV 3.8 engine from GM, but with the help of McLaren Engines it was given twin overhead camshafts and a heap more power. Presaging the 2006 Saab Aero-X concept, the Wildcat had a wholly impractical forward-sliding canopy through which the cabin could be accessed. The drive was through all four wheels, split 35:65 in favour of the rear, matching precisely the weight distribution. Vented discs all round provided stopping power, although apparently not much was needed - this prototype was said to be limited to 70mph.
