Specifications revealed for Infiniti's new Q50 mid-size offering

Infiniti in the USA have released the specifications of the new Infiniti Q50 models. The Hong Kong-headquartered luxury brand that Nissan launched in 1989 has given the Q50 a striking new look to accompany its objective: to unseat the German triumvirate of Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz in the mid-size segment of the market (Infiniti's other rival, Toyota's Lexus, is another leading protagonist in this area of the market, but is mentioned separately here so that I could use triumvirate).
The Infiniti Q50 will feature in all markets where Infiniti has a presence, including Europe, the UK and South Africa. The models described below however are for the US domestic market.
Infiniti's Q50 is available both as a petrol-engined 3.7 litre V6 or a hybrid with a 3.5 litre V6 with supplementary electric power. The petrol and the hybrid models are available in rear wheel drive or all wheel drive configurations. All versions make use of a seven speed automatic transmission to transmit the power to the wheels, with steering column-mounted "flappy paddles" for manual changes. The 3.7 litre petrol version produces 333 PS (328 brake horsepower or 245 kW) at 7000 rpm, with maximum torque of 365 N·m being produced at 5200 rpm, and features Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS) and Variable Valve Event & Lift (VVEL). The hybrid Q50 models have the familiar 3.5 litre V6, which produces 306 PS (302 brake horsepower, 225 kW) at 6800 rpm and 350 N·m (258 lb·ft) at 5000 rpm, coupled to an electric motor that produces 68 PS (67 brake horsepower, 50 kW) from 1650 rpm to 2000 rpm and 289 N·m of torque (that's 213 lb·ft) at 1650 rpm.
The Q50 sits on a 2850 mm (112.2 inch) wheelbase, and has an overall length of 4783 mm (188.3 inch) or 4803 mm (189.1 inch) for the "S" versions. Braking is by power-assisted ventilated discs all round, with the Hybrid models featuring regenerative braking. All models are equipped with ABS brakes as standard.
Three levels of trim are available for the petrol models - Q50, Q50 Premium and Q50S, while the Q50 Hybrids come in either Premium or S guise. Suggested list pricing starts at US$36 700 for the Infiniti Q50 3.7 with rear wheel drive, with the Q50S Hybrid with all wheel drive topping the list at US$48 150 - all excluding tax, title, license and destination charges.
