Trident's diesel supercar

The trend towards diesel seems to know no bounds. Trident, a fairly obscure British marque with roots in TVR's history, have announced a 6.6 litre GM diesel engined sportscar. The Trident Iceni has GM's Duramax V8, 32 valve, common-rail turbodiesel engine under the bonnet. With 380 PS (280 kW) and 705 Nm to play with, the 1220 kg roadster is claimed to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) from rest in just under 4 seconds, dispatch the quarter mile in 12 seconds, and carry on to a maximum of 170 mph (274 km/h). The bespoke transmission is an 8 speed automatic with steering-mounted paddle shift. The Iceni has been seen before, of course, but this is a daring new direction for this sportscar manufacturer. Is this the future of motoring?
