Volvo's first V8 saloon
Wednesday August 09, 2006
Volvo recently unveiled their first V8 saloon, the latest S80 4.4 V8. A 32-valve, twin overhead cam V8 of 4.4 litres capacity endows the new super-Swede with power output of 315 PS and 439 Nm of torque. Mounted transversely and driving through all four wheels, the engine enables the S80 to cover the 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 6 seconds flat. The all-aluminium V8 has an unusual 60 degree vee - most V8s have 90 degree vees. It is likely to find its way into Jaguar models in the near future.
The new S80 range also includes 3.2 litre six-cylinder petrol models, as well as a 2.5 litre petrol turbo model, and 2.4 litre diesel models.
