Chevrolet have released the specifications of the latest version of their C6 Corvette, the 2008 model year 'Vette. The Z06 carries on with virtually no technical specification changes, and the major range news is the introduction of the 6.2 litre V8 for the base Corvette coupe and Corvette convertible models. This engine is designated LS3, whilst the old 6 litre engine was the LS2. The bore has been increased to 103.25 mm from 101.6 mm, whilst the stroke remains unchanged at 92.0 mm. The increase in displacement has brought a healthy boost in power, from the already respectable 400 bhp at 6000 rpm of the LS2 to 430 bhp at 5900 rpm for the LS3. Torque is up too, from 400 lbft (@4400 rpm) to 424 lbft, now at 4600 rpm. A dual-mode exhaust system is optional for 2008, which gives a further small increase in these numbers, to 436 bhp and 428 lbft. This is available as an option on both the Corvette coupe and Corvette convertible.
