Renault and Volkswagen have just launched 2 similar special editions. The intriguingly-named Renault Megane Renault Sport F1 Team R26 was released to celebrate their 2006 F1 championships. The 2 litre, 16 valve, turbocharged engine has been uprated to 230 PS (from 224 PS in the Renault Megane Renault Sport Trophy). Torque rises from 300 Nm to 310 Nm. Special decals and trim further mark this model out as something special.

The Volkswagen Golf GTi Edition 30 was also born in celebration. For Volkswagen, the celebration is 30 years of the GTi. VW added 1 PS for each year, to bump the power from 200 PS to 230 PS. Torque is up 20 Nm to 300 Nm. Like the Renault Megane Renault Sport F1 Team R26, the engine is a 2 litre, 16 valve, 4 cylinder turbo mated to a six-speed transmission. The VW DSG gearbox is optional on the Edition 30 as well.

As far as performance goes, both of these models are pretty special too. The Renault hits 100 km/h from rest in 6.5 seconds and covers the standing kilometre in a claimed 26.6 seconds. It tops out at a maximum of 236 km/h. CO2 emissions are exactly 200 g/km. Volkswagen claims a 0-100 km/h time of 6.8 seconds for the Golf GTi Edition 30, and it has a slightly higher top speed of 245 km/h. The CO2 emission of 194 g/km is also ever-so-slightly better.
