2008 Detroit Show: Audi TTS preliminary data
Thursday January 10, 2008
Audi have released some details of their beefier TT models, the TTS Coupe and TTS Roadster. These models were unveiled at the 2008 Detroit Show.
The engine is an uprated version of the 1984cc 4 pot found in the normal TT 2.0 TFSI models. Power is up from 200 PS to 272 PS (200 kW), with torque rising from 280 Nm to 350 Nm (258 lbft). Modifications include the intake and exhaust systems, the block, connecting rods and pistons. This power is transmitted to all 4 wheels via a six speed manual 'box.
The body has been mildly tweaked to give a more muscular appearance, with overall length going up by 20 mm to 4198 mm. Tyres are 245/50 x 18 all round, and ventilated disks are fitted in the front, whilst solid disks are in the rear. The handling is aided by an Audi-developed magnetic ride adaptive suspension system. In essence, the dampers have a suspension (sorry) of magnetic particles inside a fluid that react when a voltage is applied through the mixture, either firming the ride or softening it, as conditions demand.
An automatic S Tronic version of both models will also be available. Details of these cars will be added later.
