Cadillac have released the preliminary specifications for the new 2008 model year Cadillac CTS. 3 engines are on offer, a 2.8 litre V6, a 3.6 litre V6 and a direct injection version of the 3.6 litre. The 2.8 litre version is earmarked for export only. With the exception of the 2.8 litre models, all models will have either all wheel drive or rear wheel drive as options, and can be specified with 6 speed manual or automatic transmissions. The wheel and tyre specifications show 8 x 17 inch wheels with 235/55 R 17 tyres, with 18 inchers an option.

The direct injection 3.6 litre V6 petrol engine produces 300 bhp (224 kW) at 6700 rpm, and 366 Nm (270 lbft) at 4000 rpm. The 94.0 bore and 85.6 mm stroke give the 60 degree V6 twin cam engine a swept capacity of 3564 cc. VVT, 4 valves per cylinder and relatively high 11.4:1 compression ratio round out the engine's specification.

The indirect injection 3.6 V6 engine shares the former's bore, stroke and capacity, but the compression ratio is down to 10.2:1 and the power slips to 258 bhp (192 kW) at 6200 rpm, and torque to 342 Nm (252 lbft) at 3100 rpm. This specification means that the new 3.6 litre engine makes 3 extra bhp than the current model, but identical torque.

The 2.8 litre V6 engine has a bore of 89.0 mm and a stroke of 74.8 mm, resulting in a swept capacity of 2792 cc. It also has 60 degree vee angle, and compression is 10.0:1.

The new CTS retains the current model's 2880 mm wheelbase, but overall length is slightly up, to 4867 mm (from 4829 mm).
